Christmas DIY Mutorial: Making Snowflake Ornaments

Today we are doing something different on Glamour Coastal Living - a special guest post! The lovely Yen from Blue Bird Green is sharing a Christmas DIY tutorial. Yen lives and blogs in Sydney and you can always find her covering DIY crafts, fashion tips and lifestyle inspiration on her blog.

Welcome Yen!

Hello!

My name is Yen and I write a blog called She Loves to Make it’s all about craftiness and happiness. Ashlea and I found each other through our passion for blogging and have been online friends for a while now.  We decided it was time to collaborate so I’m very happy to be writing for you today.
Ashlea has also written a lovely post on coastal table decoration ideas for Christmas for my blog here.

I grew up on Sydney’s beaches and a light breezy sunny Christmas is what I know best. The tricky thing is always… so how do you decorate for a hot balmy Christmas. Cool white, silver and gold will always work well for an Aussie Christmas. So in that theme, here is a little tutorial for you all on how to make something precious for Christmas this year. It’s easy, fun and also a great present.

YOU WILL NEED
  • 1 plastic or glass Christmas bauble that can be opened and closed from your local craft shop
  • One handful of beads
  • One glass jar to hold up your bauble
  • A hot glue gun (for those using a glass bauble)
LET’S MAKE IT!

1. Place your bauble into the top of your glass jar like this. This will make it easier for you to fill.

2. Remove the top of the bauble carefully and gently fill with beads. You can use clear ones for snow or colourful ones for sparkle. A little glitter doesn’t go astray either!

3. Replace the top of the bauble. If you are using a glass bauble, or have small
children or pets, use a hot glue gun or some superglue to stick the top back on.
It’s a lot safer. This will keep the bottom from dropping off and exploding into a
million little pieces of glass and beads… I know this from experience!

4. You have just made the quickest and most precious ornament for your home.

Well done!

If you’d like to see more DIY tutorials like this, or some articles full of happiness, She Loves to Make you will also get a free printable art work I made as a little thank you!

Thanks so much for having me Ashlea, and hello to all Glamour Coastal Living readers.

Wishing you the best Christmas yet,
Yen Taylor
